Massa: I'm ready to win the title

Saturday 5th July 2008

Felipe Massa says he's ready to win the World title having finished third and fourth in recent years.

Since joining Ferrari in 2006 Massa has found himself finishing in the top four in the Drivers' Championship despite playing second fiddle to first Michael Schumacher and then Kimi Raikkonen.

However, this season could prove to be Massa's year as the Brazilian took the lead in the Drivers' standings in France when his race victory gave him a three-point advantage over BMW's Robert Kubica.

"I think so," he said when asked if he felt ready to be crowned World Champion.

"I think if you are in this position, you cannot say you are not ready. You are ready. But you need a long way of working and it is still very early to think about the Championship now. We need to think race by race."

The Brazilian also stated that he wouldn't be looking this weekend's British GP any different to how he usually approach races just because he's leading the standings.

"Well to be honest there is not a big difference," he said. "We are only in the middle of the championship and we still have many races to go, so the approach is the same and the way of working is the same. So it doesn't change because you are the leader or not.

"We've seen four different leaders this year, so we know things can change very quickly and we just need to keep doing what we have been doing until now."
