Coulthard returns to Woking

Thursday 3rd July 2008

Four years after leaving McLaren, David Coulthard returned to Woking on Wednesday, however, it was only for the day.

The Scot, who raced for McLaren between 1996 and 2004, returned to his former team for a day after making the top bid in a Formula 1 charity auction for lunch for four and a guided tour of the Woking facility with CEO Martin Whitmarsh.

Coulthard took with him Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, engineering head - and former McLaren tech director - Adrian Newey and his manager - and former McLaren driver - Martin Brundle.

"David has always been a popular driver at McLaren and we've known him for a long time. In fact, he's driven more grands prix for McLaren than any other driver in Formula 1 history," Whitmarsh said.

"It's fantastic that he has put his hand in his own pocket to support this charity auction and it's great to see him back at Woking.

"This afternoon showed that we still remain friends with many of our former drivers - because Martin, of course, is an ex-McLaren driver too."
