Alonso shrugs off Piquet result

Fernando Alonso says he is not too concerned that team-mate Nelsinho Piquet finished higher than him at the French Grand Prix.

Alonso appeared to be well on his way to another dominating performance over his team-mate, but the rookie hit back in the closing stages to finish in seventh place.

The Brazilian overtook the double World Champion on the last lap at Magny-Cours to pick up his first points in Formula One.

Alonso, though, is not too concerned that his struggling team-mate finally got one over him.

"The backmarker, a Force India, didn't see me and moved to the outside and I moved to the inside to avoid it and I overshot the corner," he told Spanish television.

"But one or two points won't change my life."

The Renault driver also lamented the fact that the French team were once again way off the pace.

"I don't think it (the strategy) was bad, but you need to have race pace and be able to run fast enough, otherwise it doesn't matter if you have a good or a bad strategy," he said.

"We were a second slower than our direct rivals and that's too much."
