'finolait' yes, I suppose you're right, but I wonder if there's not 'some potential for the Country's benefit?' I do hope not. As we know F1 circuits cost a mint and then, sometimes at a whim, are dropped from the circus, perhaps to a circuit in the Middle East, I would love to think that Bernie was being truly altruistic in helping out a burgeoning economy and not just to make some good returns for The FOM. I love to but...... Thanks, I really appreciate you comment. kind regards, Max.

"I can t believe this.Who care of a GP in bulgaria or india or russia? It s time that ecclestone leave.Did he forget that the fans( the ones who can make a difference between a f1 and a )are mostly based in europe?

I hope India is coming on the calendar! They have postponed that like 2 or 3 times already!

To Max-Headroom. Yes you are correct, it is exploitation. But look at the article again. It is the Bulgarians that are wanting to be fleeced by Bernie. They are the ones looking for a GP, and of course Bernie will be glad to please. He must be rubbing his hands already. In glee

RedBalls, continuing to place races in countries where 20-50,000 people attend each race and spend no money in doing so, does nothing to promote the spectacle of F1. Bernie does this to only get the countries to throw money his way, along with more money from the TV sponsorship. Attendance is not his problem, as he probably receives little, if any, money from that side. Stuart49, I agree... put the racing back where it belongs... where the fans live... Mexico, USA, Canada, Holland, Belgium, France, Germany. Open it up to Sweden or Finland or Denmark. Put one in Austria. Fans will flock to these venues. Turkey, Hungary, the Middle East, SE Asia (except for Australia) and a proposed Russian, are all venues where the teams make little money and not many fans attend to see it in person. What a silly game Bernie is playing. Of course, this will all change, once he retires.

In the past, we lost Mexico,USA,Holland, Sweden, Argentina,France. So it makes sense to add Bulgaria and India? Inmates ARE running the asylum!

So there shouldn't be a race in Bulgaria because it doesn't have "history"? Since when was F1 about the past? New drivers, new teams, new technical developments - they're all viewed as good things. So why should the same not extend to tracks? Would you prefer F1 to race on tracks that are LITERALLY crumbling so you can sit back and reminisce?

"domformula one, you know and I know that although F1 got almost complete capitulation from FIA, Bernie and FOM were not part of that equation. FOM in the interests of it's shareholders (and Bernie) decide where the tracks and races will be, FOTA have NO SAY, they must just turn up and race. FOM charge the circuits, governments and indirectly (because their charges are so insanely high) the people who attend the races as well as those who watch on TV. I've been looking at property prices near Sofia (No! not THAT Sofia, the capital city!) £10,000 would buy a "westerner" a reasonable second/holiday house, this gives a guide to the average income. How, therefore can a Bulgarian get to watch THEIR OWN Grand Prix at £300 a ticket? Some may say that this is exploitation, I would agree.

Nice to see Bernie is hoping to take F1 to more countries that don't give a stuff about the sport, away from the ones that do.

what the heck is this all about, wasn't a key part of FOTA's proposals that nations with racing heritage should host races? Is there a big following / former race / talented driver from Bulgaria currently doing the rounds? Or is it just a big bank balance

I joke with my local friends that Bernie would sanction a grand prix in Ulan Bator, if the Mongolian government paid him Eighty million pounds. This rumor shows my joke is not that absurd. Since Bulgaria hasn't even built the track yet, the chances are slim F1 will race there in 2011. F1 is suppossed to expand into India in 2011. Originally scheduled for 2010, the construction of the race track hit some snags. How is that project coming along ?

I echo PaulRS, How about we have tracks in Argentina and Mexico, I garantee you more attendance and more fan interest, Good Lord, BULGARIA?

Let me guess, a thrilling circuit with lots of overtaking and lead changing every lap, packed crowds loving every minute of it as the tickets are good and cheap........ YEAH RIGHT!!!!! Maybe the bookies could have odds on the crowd being over 20,000

To follow "angryandez" I suspect that Bernie expects to get the money from the Bulgarian government! If not...No G.P... He may even have persuadede them that they will make a profit. Please Mr. Ecclestone, profit is not what it's ALL about. The FIA makes a good profit for it's shareholders (that's capitalism and THEY'RE doing "quite well", I've read the figures). Somebody said further down the postings that the average wage in Bulgaria is some $300 per month but the differential between rich and poor vast. My friend Goode and I, if the Bulgarian G.P. does happen next year are contemplating attending and wearing "Seat Filler" shirts, then, if the FIA, TV companies, or even the Bulgarian gov't needs a "good show" WE'LL be there! we could sell shirts for a SMALL profit and sit outside waiting for our invitation to attend when insufficient people turn up. If any sponsor wants their logo on OUR shirts, we can do that too. It could even look like the Valli Rossi crew in Moto GP. You must keep in mind that the Bulgarian Army may be busy doing training and stuff. Even if they could attend to fill seats they may be wearing camouflage. The Turkish army wore camouflage at their G.P. and we didn't see them, if they'd worn white T shirts we would have! even though the grandstand seats were full and there were lots of them lying in the grass having a great time watching the G.P. for free because only a few Turkish F1 FANS could afford $400+ to get to, and into the race. FOM have, surely a lot to answer for!

Sweet, I can't wait to see nobody in the stands at another East European race! Can FOTA puh-lease pressure the midget into going back to the classic tracks of successful races?

Mates, I'm from Bulgaria and I can tell you with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that there's gonna be NO TRACK here. Trust me on that one. Our country is as poor as a third-rate African dictatorship, if not poorer. Not to mention the absolute lack of infrastructure here, lack of interest, lack of seriousness. I just don't think Bernie's gone so mad that he'd sign a deal with a country like us :- )

If Turkey looks like it's going to be shelved due to it's inability to fill the grandstands, then surely Bulgaria is a non-starter. The average wage is like 300 Euros per month... I think they should concentrate on getting North America back, especially Canada.

What for? So that they can go broke trying to pay the fees? Good luck, Bulgaria!!!!
