"isnt LG part of the panasonic group, correct me if i'm wrong" Consider yourself corrected! Panasonic is Japanese (Panasonikku Kabushiki-gaisha) and LG is Korean (Lucky Goldstar). They are fierce multi-national competitors. LG has teamed up on some projects with other Japanese companies like Hitachi, but are a multi-national group company in their own right.

A Clempo : you are wrong. Panasonic is part of the Matsushita Corp. which is a Japanese Multi-National. LG, or to give them their full name, Lucky Goldstar, Is a Korean Multi-National.

LG remains in Korean ownership. It is not part of Matsushita - the holding company of Panasonic.

Given the choice between sponsoring the next world Champion, plus instant impact as they would be able to start getting logos on the car this season. Or Renault who havnent done anything special since they last won the championship... I know which I'd be choosing.....
